Alpine Helicopters Ltd. (“Alpine”) has been contributing to the Canadian helicopter industry since 1961 when Jack Nicholson and Ted Jansen started its first base operations in Alberta. Over the years, operations have expanded to a number of locations in Alberta and British Columbia. In 1988, Pat Aldous and Dave Whyte, along with a small number of investors, acquired Alpine and strategically aligned its operations to focus on heli‑skiing, heli‑hiking and forest fire suppression.
In 1991, Alpine formed a subsidiary company, Alpine Aerotech Ltd. (“Aerotech”), to conduct structural repairs and maintenance on Bell model helicopters. Aerotech also manufactures non-critical helicopter parts and fixtures to sell to third parties. In 1995, Alpine purchased Canadian Mountain Holidays Inc. (“CMH”), a heli-skiing/heli-hiking company that Alpine has provided services to since 1981.
