Safety

Alpine Helicopters maintains an active safety program. The overall safety of personnel and customers is Alpine’s first priority. Risk management is considered to be the task of all employees from the accountable executive down. The Vice-President has the overall responsibility for operational safety; it is his job to direct the relevant personnel in the risk management aspects of all safety related items.

The Chief Pilot is responsible for the safe and efficient operation by the pilots of all company helicopters, for setting up controls and checks to ensure that Transport Canada and company regulations are adhered to at all times and recommending such disciplinary actions as may be required for non-adherence to company regulations.

The Company Safety Manager is responsible to the Vice-President (accountable executive) for matters concerning flight safety. He maintains a continuing flight safety program within the company, which includes dissemination of any and all information that is likely in any way to assist in the prevention of incidents. The Safety Manager visits each base at least twice a year.

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for the maintenance safety standards. The Director of Maintenance visits each base at least twice a year.

The Quality Assurance Manager ensures that the standards and controls required for the safe operation of the company aircraft are adhered to at all times. The Quality Assurance Manager visits each base at least twice a year.

Management meets on a bi-weekly basis to review operational and safety issues. All incidents occurring within the previous 2‑week period are discussed, with appropriate follow-up, remedial action and disciplinary action determined for each incident.

Transport Canada has issued new regulations requiring all aviation companies to have Safety Management Systems (SMS) in place. Alpine already complies with these regulations and has the SMS program in place.

Alpine’s management undergoes regular annual training in safety-related matters and is often called upon to speak at safety related symposiums and events.
